At long last, the Dill Pickle Food Coop is open for business at 3039 West Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square. Join us at the grand opening celebration this Saturday, December 12, 11:30a and on. We will be on stage to deliver some words of encouragement to our fellow picklers around 1:15p. See you then!
UPDATE 12/11: While I’m flattered to be designated owner, I am only 1/540th of the management team, however. It got fixed. Check us out in Timeout Chicago here.
The shelves are being stocked and final inspection is mere days away (see update below). Good food coming to Chicago soon NOW!
UPDATE: We have passed our final building inspection!!! Opening imminent! Celebration ensues.
Laura and I will be interviewed tomorrow, Saturday, October 24 at 10:20a-11:20a to discuss our Dill Pickle Food Coop project on Vocalo Public Radio, 89.5FM in Chicago. You can catch it on the airwaves at 89.5FM in Chicago or online at vocalo.org. We will post the audio to our site if you miss it. Here is the audio (skip ahead to 35:05)
The bike parking at the Dill Pickle has quadrupled this week, the bike racks have been installed! We have also finished the installation of the vintage-door-vestibule-window (see where the doors were before, below), reclaimed floor and wall tile (check out the groovy flower print in the center of the tiles) and storefront door from the Rebuilding Exchange. Final inspections are scheduled for this week, so keep your fingers crossed! Photos after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
We are closing in on completion of the Dill Pickle Food Coop. Drywall has been hung, ductwork is in, reclaimed glass doors are installed, and painting to be completed this week. Storefront window and door are scheduled for delivery next week. Latest photos after the jump. New to moss’ food initiative? Read more here and here.
The avocado green paint has been removed from the masonry, walls are starting to be framed, rough plumbing is being routed, and insulation has been blown into the ceiling. Photos after the jump.
We were approved for permit last week! Construction is slated to begin next week. Stay up to date right here.
Slated to open late this summer, Chicago will welcome its first food coop. While Chicago’s summer farmers’ markets are great, the Dill Pickle Coop will house community supported farming on a daily basis. Like most coop’s around the country Dill Pickle, located in Logan Square, will be a member-owned food store specializing in real, local, organic, and nutritious food.
The plans for the Dill Pickle Food Coop in Logan Square have been submitted to the Department of Buildings for permits. If all goes well we expect to be under construction in July and occupied in late summer, just in time for harvest season! See some of our concept renderings after the jump.
